Senior Minister

Reverend Steve Workman was the Senior Minister for First Christian Church of Macomb from September 2001 until his passing, March 23, 2011.

Rev. Steve Workman completed his Master of Arts in Christian Education at Christian Theological Seminary (DOC, Indianapolis, IN) in 1995 and his Master of Divinity degree at Eden Theological Seminary (UCC, St. Louis, MO) in 2001. He was ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in May 2001, and began his ministry as the Senior Minister at Macomb in September, 2001. He formerly held Associate Minister, DCE, and Director of Music positions at DOC congregations in Hannibal, MO, as well Frankfort and West Lafayette, IN.

Rev. Workman has participated and offered leadership in numerous Regional and Area activities in Indiana, Mid-America, and Illinois-Wisconsin Regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In January 2006, Workman became the President of the Wenois Cluster Council of local DOC churches. This position placed him on the Regional Board for the Christian Church in Illinois-Wisconsin (CCIW). Workman then became the Convener of the Wenois Clergy Chapter in April 2006. This position placed him on the Clergy Senate, the "executive council" of the Communion of Clergy, a clergy professional and standards organization unique to CCIW. Rev. Workman was elected President of the Senate and CCCCIW at the CCIW Regional Assembly in November, 2006.

Rev. Workman was a member of the worship planning team for the CCIW Regional Assembly in 2008, accompanying worship services as organist and pianist. He previously served on the worship planning team for the CCIW Youth Summit 07 and served as worship music leader at the keyboard for the 500 youth attending. He was honored in 2005 as one of ten DOC ministers in the CCIW to be selected to attend Journeying the Good News Road: A Conference on Congregational Transformation as hosted by Disciples Home Missions, a General Unit of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In 2004 Workman was one of nineteen DOC ministers in the CCIW selected to attend special training for church renewal and revitalization as presented by Dr. Peter Steinke, ranking national authority for Healthy Congregations, focused on the use of "family systems theory" in the church. Upon his arrival in Macomb, Workman was part of the CCIW Lazarus Project for church renewal for 4 years.

Prior to his theological work, Rev. Workman completed a B.S. in Choral/Vocal Music Education at Ball State University (Muncie, IN) and taught six and a half years of high school vocal/choral music in central Indiana. Rev. Workman had been the rehearsal and performance accompanist for the McDonough Choral Society and directed the Chancel Choir at First Christian Church of Macomb each Sunday as well as in special concerts of chamber music with orchestra. He has served as president of the Macomb Area Christian Ministers Association, a partial term as a Member of the Board of Macomb Community Unit School District, founding member of the Macomb Inter-Faith Council, member of the Board of Loaves and Fishes, Etc. local food pantry, and president of the Board of The Samaritan Well women's and men's transitional housing shelter.

Rev. Workman was a graduate of Ball State University and native of central Indiana, as is his wife. The prayers of the church are with his wife and their one daughter.
