Greetings Fellow Lions of District 1-H.
Has anyone figured out, if it is spring, winter, or something else—80º one day, snow flurries the next, isn't this crazy?
We are all aware of the problems the recent rains have caused residents along the Illinois, Spoon, Mississippi, and Rock Rivers in our district. We applied for and have been granted a $10,000 emergency grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), and a committee is working to provide and distribute materials needed to the flood victims.
Lion Bob Bowen of the Macomb club asked, if we had a way of collecting funds from Lions in the district to add to the grant, which we could use now or in the future. I had to respond that we didn't because none of us on the committee had thought of it. So, if anyone would wish to contribute, you can mail a check to our District Treasurer, PDG Jim McCarter, 2117 West Edna Court, West Peoria, IL 61604, and in the memo area put flood relief. Any and all contributions will and are appreciated. This will allow us to be more proactive and not reactive in the future.
I am going to ask Cabinet Secretary, Chuck, to put on the Agenda for our June meeting a discussion of the Alert Program in view of setting up a district procedure for the future. I have to thank Lion Myron Lang, our Technology Coordinator for starting the process to get the grant. The committee currently includes: Lions Tawny Hall, Buzz Melton, Terry Knollenberg, Diane Kroll, Judy Tapper, Myron Lang, Dick Ronna, John Allsworth, Leigh Edwards of Peoria Heights, Jim and Carolyn McCarter, and someone I probably have missed. I thank all of them for the work they are, and have been doing to move this process forward.
I have only a few Clubs left to visit this year, and Sandy and I have enjoyed our visits to the Clubs in our District 1-H. The District continues to be a leader in MD-1, and I am proud to have represented you this year. I look forward to and regret the approaching end of my year as YOUR GOVENOR. You are the best and thanks for all you do and have done this year as we committed ourselves to "Service with a Lion's Heart."
Thank you and best wishes,
